It's not that your art looks like you don't care or don't put effort into it, but your style just looks so... Effortless, I guess lol. Like, it's a favorite of mine because it looks good but I feel like you don't feel the need to make it super polished every time, and I'm trying to move my work in that sort of direction, but I'm really struggling! Do you have any tips?

thank you!!! im the first to admit that a lot of my drawings i get done pretty quick and without a lot of effort, which i dont think is a bad thing or a good thing. i dont really draw to hone some amazing art skill or whatever, i just think its fun :) more than anything, i recommend doing whatevers the most fun for you to do. my art definitely isnt perfect but it makes me happy just to make it so as long as its doing that im fine with it not being technically stellar

anyways, actual art tips: with a simple style i find that a huge factor of it is knowing whats important and focusing on that. i mean if you like little details all power to you but i personally stick to what shapes i need and play with those. for instance the face: sometimes i go through the trouble to sketch it out and make it complicated, give it a chin and cheeks and whatnot, but sometimes you just gotta draw a character with a circle/oval head and call it there. from there its really about how you fill the shape, how big you make the eyes and mouth, what shape you make the nose, how exaggerated things are in proportion to one another. things like simple eyelashes, eyebags, eyebrows and dents around the mouth help exaggerate expressions without you needing to go crazy

shapes are awesome but also shape language is iffy imo because a. people use it to be weird about fat characters and b. theres a lot you can do with the same shape to convey different things. instead, i find that mixing shapes and lines works well for me. for instance, when i draw my classic Jeff The Killer art, i give him a round face and round eyes, sharp hair and mouth, and a square body. the shapes dont really symbolize anything they just look good like that

finally, a very important thing is feeling. when i draw i do it based on semi subconscious feeling. by this i mean what lines and textures are satisfying to draw, both for me and for the design. play around with your lines and try to find ones that feel nice to draw. for example i really like doing the rounded line with a point at the end that i do with dumois' hair. its just nice to draw

again, i cant emphasize enough that you should draw for your own enjoyment. be hedonistic with your art even if it doesnt look exactly like what you imagined: what matters is that you enjoy making it because even though it sounds cheesy it is true that you can tell when someone really enjoyed making their art and it makes it so charming! so go be free and play!!!

making character sprites as a one-person indie game developer

(huh. turns out this post on cohost didnt have a “read me” section”. o well. i will put the read me section Here,  before any of da actual text. click it if u dare !!)

so, i've been meaning on making a Big post talkin all about how i actually Make my games and my processes n such ,but also ive been procrastinating on making it for so long that i thought i might as well just make One part of that post now .. and its about making the Character Sprites for my games .

So. these images are the (mostly) full sprite sheets of the three characters from my game UNITRES Dreams, taken directly from the big giant 'charactersprites.png' image that i used for nearly every sprite for Most of the game's development. some quick things to make note of: First off, Trees (the first one) was one of the earliest things i made for the game, and had their sprite sheet redone Twice since then.. this first picture doesnt contain the latest sprite sheet as the new sprites were done on aesprite and im too lazy to make a sprite sheet out of them right now.

Secondly, the Second character (the pink one), had two different designs, being completely redesigned as i didnt like their first design all too much. their redesign's animations was done in aesprite, but i made a sprite sheet out of em before so i was able to just put them here. Lastly, the Third character (the blue one with the big silly hat) remained mostly unchanged as their original sprites and design were pretty good, but they needed to be cleaned up and given better colors so i ended up polishing all of their sprites.

Anyways. it's going to be hard for me to explain my actual process, as i am Bad With Words, but i will try my best.. So. for Most of my time as a game dev, I've used Paint.NET for Everything. This includes backgrounds, tilesets, and every animation ever in all of my games. For my character sprites specifically, i usually start with making the color palette (which is a whole different process where i mess around with the RGB values until i get a specific color that i think looks pretty ... its hard to describe). When making a new character, i usaully start with an Idle animation, just so i have a good base to make all the other sprites on. I just make a sketch of the character, then i do the flat colors (as my games dont have line art), and once i have the colors i start doing the rendering , where i try to pull off a sort of Sonic CD-esque , celshaded style while Also including a bit of anti-aliasing and other modern pixel art techniques to give the sprites more Depth and make them look Sharp. Idk. it's hard to describe my process in words ... i Did make a video Years ago showing off my process, but its old and my editing in that video isnt the Greatest.

So., that's my process Lol . the only thing thats really changed is that Now i use Aesprite for making the Actual Animations , as making animations with Paint.NET is Really Difficult and Annoying , as i have No Idea how the animation will Look until it actually appears ingame .. which results in the early versions of each character's animations looking a little weird (such as Trees' first two versions, the first version of the Pink character, and the Blue character's animations.. .though the blue character isnt as bad as the other two and i kept their animations mostly the same in the final game LOL).

Something that people have kind of criticized about UNITRES Dreams' animations is that some of em dont exactly ... Look Good. a lot of animations are pretty Inconsistent , with characters like Trees having inconsistent sizes in some animations and the movement in animations such as the Pink character's walking animation and various other animations (Especially the ones made in Paint.NET) looking Unnatural.

And Well .. here's the thing about making animations and sprites for something like this. When you're the Main person making an indie game, you have Tons of different parts of the game that need to be worked on while having Very little time to work on others. On Top of making every single animation for UNITRES , i had to make every single Tileset and background for every single level, On Top of making the Level Layouts , Programming , and even making sprites for things like the UI. And you have to constantly Test the game to make sure everything works and things Look good.

So. i had very little time to work on the sprites, and i Knew this. Something you have to consider is that, not only are you making the animations for the main character , you Also have to make Tons of animations and sprites for Literally Every Other Aspect of The Game . this includes Enemies , Level Gimmicks , NPCs, And the UI .. so you end up having to work on Thousands of sprites by yourself in such a short time.

I ain't the best animator , nor the best sprite artist . But , for this game I chose an art style which is Kinda simple and comfortable for me, which made making things like tilesets and backgrounds so much easier for me. The character sprites specificially only use a few amount of colors ,but also i tried my best to give them as much depth and make them as Colorful looking as i could. Also , something you might notice is that all of the playable characters dont actually have a whole lot of animations .. each of the characters only have the Exact amount of frames and animations necessary for them to Look Good moving around the levels. Aside from a few Gimmick Specific animations that arent in the sprite sheets i posted , there arent many Extra animations or animations with Tons of Frames that i wish i could have added .. and it Kind Of Sucks . Having to split my time across Three Different Characters , i had no time to make any animations Too Crazy or Too Smooth , and i couldnt include any extra animations that could add a bit of personality to the characters ... In Fact ,the Idle "animation" isnt an animation , its just a still frame. I didnt have time to even make a simple waiting animation !!

It Is What It Is. For what its worth , Ithink Im pretty proud of the animations i did for UNITRES Dreams. while i think ive become a much better artist and animator since then, i still think some animations and some of the frames look really good ..just looking at some of the still frames is really nice .. so i think i did a good job, especially for a game that was made in 2 years and is Free. And Hey, while the animations in UNITRES Dreams may not be the best or have the most smooth animations , i Did get to experiment with making more smooth animations for TREES' ADVENTURE. while ,now, i think some stuff could use some work, i am Really Proud of how some of the animations look .. ididnt get to make Too Many extra animations (there still isnt even an Idle animation), i Did get to make some cool extra animations , such as individual animations for your Jump that are based on how fast you're moving . (the original post on cohost had a buncha gifs of da animations but im Too Fuckin Tired 2 post em here LOL !!!)

So Yea . the moral of the story: making video games is kind of hard and time consuming , Especially when you're like , the Only one working on them. just make sure to plan ahead and try not to overwork urself .. make what you can and do it when you can. Thats what i think , anyways.

✯ the most random bullshit will happen when the two of you are together. sometimes its because of grimm, sometimes its because of bad luck, somehow you give that feeling that you’re the type of person who gets stuck into bad situations often, half of which is your fault for breaking the rules, and half of which is someone else’s, accidentally stepping into the mess because of grimm and the others

✯ malleus finds it refreshing to be by you. he does not mind the loudness you describe, or how your emotions may be displayed in ways he cannot fully comprehend. but, he is observant. though he is no detective like akechi, his ability to empathize and willingness for communication and tolerance is on par with the words of a masterful mediator. when he does speak, it is only honesty that echoes through his words. you do not need to think hard to understand what his words mean. he does not dumb you down because of your mental diagnoses either, and expects a lot from you. dont worry! a relationship with malleus means good pressure and anticipation— he motivates you with his abilities and ambition.

✯ your sense of adventure and attitude endears many of your friends in the cast, but it is especially malleus that is affected. you remind him of all the good humans have, despite flaws, being capable of so much charity and care. the only other human he is so close with is silver, and you are not like him at all after the initial stage of distance! many can see him softening up physically and verbally the slightest bit near you to make you feel more comfortable. he’s like a prince, truly, researching into counterparts of things you enjoyed back on earth that exists here in wonderland to gift you, asking his friends for advice regarding getting close to you at first. he’s a very calming soul, and matching some of what you’ve said, the relationship itself feels so peaceful and intimate. even with the rolling boulders and sentient armor chasing after the two of you. yep yep 👍🏻 malleus is here to save the day! (again) though, i have no doubt you would’ve been able to escape the situation eventually by yourself.

✯ the two if you go out often during the night for dates and late night shopping! i can see the two of you getting warm boba during the winter, walking around food markets and tasting the snacks. eventually, it gets very cold despite that! so malleus bundles you in his own scarf and casts some magic to heat the two of you up by touching him (he milks the most affection out of anything he can find lol). particularly, he really likes holding your hands. do you wear nail polish? he likes the way it feels when he touches them. not only that, black is both his dorm color and an important color in gothic fashion. isnt it a good suggestion of color?

✯ avid listener to you. he talks more often with you than even lilia, but all the same, he is less of a talker and more of a listener. he likes the way that you laugh and watching your reactions to different things. malleus’ chuckles are hard to come by - his smiles arent - but his laughter is. its like a reward daunting on you when you hear it, a downright angelic laughter. it makes everything you do so so worth it. if you invite him for a movie night, bet that he would be able to pay attention to both at once, so the two of you can talk about the movie together afterwards. he definitely lets you touch the horns.

✯ he can solve 90% of your problems, and that’s exactly what he does when you allow him to. he just wants to see you happy and secure in life, and that extends to when you leave NRC…

✯ sad endings are overrated though, so the two of you have a mirror that can take each other to the other persons world. who gave it to you? just pretend im there and found this magical artifact on accident and gave it to you two 😼 whatever actions the two of you take next, you will always find each other’s lives interwoven. your time together comes back to him in winter harshly, washed over by the snow. whatever time he spent with you and will spend with you must feel idyllic, like the freedom of cold wind sweeping through the skies.

✯ she lovesss coddling you, moreso in words of affirmation and physical affection, in exchange for your care and attention. out of everyone on your list, she and V are most likely the most touched from your characteristics and values. as i get to know you better, i start to think that for mystic messenger V might quite honestly be the better pick between him and jumin. since she cant truly embrace you, she hooks an arm around your shoulders or neck instead, and practically drapes herself on you lol. everyone is pretty strong in the DWMA, so of course you can bring her around! i feel like she’d also break some protocol and sneak into your bag in her cat form in order to stay by you lol. and you let it happen, because its ok, even if stein punishes the two of you

✯ she’s a bit of a prideful person, and you’re a very charming person, so she definitely likes showing you off to the other witches and people she knows well. its a brag— look who i managed to pull! not only that, your senses of fashion are both very darker toned, which means a lot of correlating outfits.

✯ as a witch, puppetry is a topic she is very accustomed to. other things in your hobbies that involves more motion like dancing is something she is very passionate towards. are you on the school’s team? she’ll watch allll your games and wear your jerseys! not only that, she also enjoys shopping and parties! it really helps that you’re an extrovert, so she doesnt feel like shes dragging a reluctant lover around and feel bad! your determination really inspires her, and the fact that you’re spouse material does not help in how she becomes clingy with you in the mornings! she’s going to steal all the sweets you bake and eat all the food you’ve cooked. having heritage in so many cultures, i’m guessing you have a plethora of knowledge in different kinds of dishes! she really enjoys that, and becomes a truly spoiled cat.

✯ this man right here plays the hell around before actually starting to do anything with you at all. not only that, he’s a bit of a tsundere. good thing you’re patient, because this man is making you wait. he himself is a ghost, so time runs differently for him. in his gaze, you have already lost (you won)

✯ this is the other bantering relationship — the two of you have legendary back and forths, qi rong throwing together vulgar responses on the spot while you use your vocabulary to destroy each other. when you get verbally aggressive because of his provocation reaching too close, he didnt expect you to get that riled up. he had expected you to be reluctantly tolerant at first like that fucker xie lian, but, you really werent kidding when you said you’re confrontational like this. he thinks its attractive in all honesty.

✯ that aside, you are a very helpful hand that he has always needed — and while he dislikes it, he also appreciates your optimism — its something he has lost in the many years he has been alive. not only os a good for him, children should not be raised in such a hostile environment like he already put guzi in, even this ancestor already knows. you’ll be a good model for both him and guzi to follow. especially in fucking hygiene and dressing, he needs a shower, i just know it, especially with the raining blood.

✯ most of the time he just sort of basks in your presence, maybe using your shoulder or your lap. he’s sleepy all the time, so he gets agitated quickly. you do this thing called the jax effect in which you calm him down and relax him just by being near him, maybe holding his hands or stroking his hair. the way it is described makes it more akin to relaxing a pet or a child, but dont worry, its nothing like that. many of your interactions are very emotionally charged because of how the both of you are. many of your dates just consists of the two of you lying in bed or just somewhere inside his or your rooms together doing your more calmer hobbies. he’s definitely up for walking around from time to time, mostly to make you happy 😃 drag him around while you’re out and dont feel bad, he likes you talking his ears off. for how tired he seems, hes always able to recount all your words and the like.

✯ mainly its your sense of humor that makes him stay. he loves how outspoken you are, your mischievousness and slightly rebellious streak. bel will not be able to stand someone who allowed people to walk over them like a carpet, even if its from time to time. he’s one of the seven lords of hell— as long as you are with him, you are nigh untouchable by others. only by way of curses and the shit you and his brothers get in is he left more helpless. but yes, he gets very happy around you, even snuffling his giggling from time to time. he especially would like you if you have the guts to go against lucifer and stand your ground. he doesnt want to take a lover who he must be fragile with; someone like you is perfect, who also gives him room to grow and learn about you as a person. he can trust you.

✯ of everyone’s futures she sees, yours hurt the most. but, it isnt about that right now.

✯ aponia adores every aspect of you. she is a woman easily endeared by your bold personality, yet you seem to be embarrassed very easily sometimes. gossip? she finds that cute instead - you just want to know things occurring around you, not to actively spread any malevolent information, isnt it? not only that, you seem to get amped up sometimes; shes the perfect balance to settle you down! especially when you’re feeling tired or down, she knows all the ways to help you feel better, only partially to do with her abilities.

✯ spends every moment she can to really take in all of you. i think the two of you align very well in personality, and she can easily understand what you are going through and offer aid. she’s definitely got killer moves too, and i think she would love collecting figurines or stuffed animals with you together— if she ever gets some limited edition figure when you did not, she will give them to you!! ceaselessly! dont try to decline, she insists that her collection also is yours. she likes to do that cheek nuzzling thing, or rubbing your back ❥ having her as your partner, you truly must have done more than a hundred major good deeds in your past life.

✯ i feel like in genshin you’d have a hydro or pyro vision, both very complimentary to work with his cryo, just like how your dynamic would be blended in softly with one another. i think the two of you starts out as close friends, the type where he thinks of you slightly as a little brother figure, but in the type of way the best i could describe to be a younger friend calling someone older brother or sister in korean&chinese. someone who he is open to give guidance to. as the wheel of romance starts turning, i would liken him to be quite flustered at this development based on your character.

✯ wriothesley is an immensely chilled person, humble, persuasive, observant. his dynamic with you would be like aponia’s, however with other developments attuned to the two of you specifically. for example, he would delight in sharing teatime with you, the baked goods you have made serving as a small powerup for his mood! not only that, mornings will be spent in calming ease. wriothesley seems like the type to wake up early by accident, and many times the two of you stay under the blankets until duty calls.

✯ what strikes him immediately when he first met you was of your treatment to the melusine. the catalyst of his own amiability towards them was of their displays of kindness when he needed them most. so whenever he sees someone like you, he gets slightly curious. the way you keep his attention, is with the different way you seem to go about things and interactions. looking at you sucking in a breath before approaching your next target is, by heavens, very wholesome to watch.

✯ he likes running his hands through your hair. it just feels right to say. does your love for the cold weather and drinks apply to pleasant coldness in general? wriothesley naturally runs cold, and hopes you dont mind it when he holds your hand. normally, he takes bis gauntlet off to do so, but perhaps it is still a bit too much…

✯ the most wholesome pairing award goes towards this matchup! this is another one where im not too confident in in terms of writing, aone and you give off childhood friends vibes, with you stepping in to voice his opinion whenever he pulls back to avoid more conflict. usually, by the time you finish speaking, the other party is deterred because of your passion instead of being riled up by it, leaving no furthered argument to be held. aone admires this greatly, since you make sure it stops there. i think he’ll balance out your fervor too, with his presence comes a presence of calm that grounds you before you spitfire at the other person.

✯ playing volleyball????? you play volleyball?? and other sports?? he’s so delighted on the inside. please practice with him when you can! getting some advice from someone you can trust really does feel very different than just regular tips.

✯ this works out. it definitely does. i know you have patience, and that definitely applies to when you love someone too. you are like the light he sees at the end of the tunnel, who blazes in and shoots away at the evils that plagues his mind. not only are you of character to help him immensely with your thoughts and values, everything turns his emotions over into turmoil. your presence disrupts that into rest, a dissipating tempest.

✯ he is absolutely an annoyance with his fixation on rika. he’s probably compared everyone with rika at one point, and is reminded of his guilt. timid, fainthearted, and too loyal, he knows his shortcomings well and thinks you deserve better than what he can give you. and he is right, for the present. as of now, he cannot give you anything worthwhile, but his own existence is something worthwhile to you. often times, its annoying that he burdens himself without telling others. how could he? as a friend you help him turn his gaze into getting better instead, and with your words, show him how communication is so important. alright enough about fixing him.

sorry i want to ramble about fan fiction and i dont want to bothr people in dms

ok chapter 8 is getting its third googledoc draft because part of me does want to do as much of this as possible before the end of the year, especially while i still have so much free time.

thank you to past me for writing up the scene by scene breakdown. that DOES make this much easier to continue on. HOWEVER. why did i leave so much open ended. thats making this much harder. like

everything was left like this. and then when i add dialogue it changes the course of the scene pretty dramatically. ive spent like an hour today trying to iron out one scene i thought i had THE MOST polished up already. like. Carsex Scene was supposed to be my ease-in easy bit. HOW DO WRITERS DO THIS? im NOT cut out for this kind of work.

well this past year has given me a lot of respect for people who can write. ahhhhh

oh yeah also i cant find the whole first scene for this chapter. i wrote it a while ago and i have NO idea what happened to it. fml i guess

first scene i have dennor being cute togehter. unfortunately i havent figured out the whole second half of the scene. my notes are like "they talk about their relationship" and like ok i know this is necessary and ive been putting off them doing this for like 4 chapters but i dont know what to do with that. they should have a talk about the state of their relationship but i have discarded drafts of like mads confessing his love to sig which is no longer canon. i had a version where there was a subplot about them breaking up. now i just want them to have the polyamory talk, bcz someone has to and im not making sufin do it. but tbh i could leave it implied. and just put that off until the fic is over bc i dont care I JUST DONT CARE i dont feel like it

next was more sufin moments i think given some time i could make this bit really good. i love sufin. i love them being together this part is fine actually i just need to start it and the inspiration will come

next umm lets see. OH ACTUALLY this one is funny. im really into this scene even though i can sense it getting really really long. whenever i get into fleshing this scene out im goign to enjoy it. its denice and dennor having awkward boyfriend-sharing interactions. and nor is like sooo how are those wet dreams going lol and ice is like . well youre definitely not in them lol uhhhhhhh. jk he doesnt say this but he thinks it. his life is so hard u guize

the next bit .................. im trying to shoehorn in some norfin. im trying to set up that they should be besties and hang out more. because its true and right. unfortunately this "scene" is 2 lines long bc i wasnt sure what to do with it. could i drop it? yes. but for plot reasons I DONT WANT TOOOO. but what is the scene about? nothing, but i gotta fit in 2 important plot points and so i shall. maybe they will even do a sex. WHO KNOWS! NOT ME

next bit is another one that could get real long if i let it. i love the densu nation and i need their crumbs. i need them to hang out. IS IT PLOT IMPORTANT? maybe not. but TO ME i think it is CHARACTER IMPORTANT. theres some foreshadowing. actually maybe 2 layers of foreshadowing that begin here. and also they are playing videos game and being children about it and i love them

next bittttttttt emil feels like a fifth wheel and gets in his emotions about it :( this scene im feeling ok about even though its vague so far. its a good starting point. i can do something with this

I'm a bisexual person, and I must say that I'm highly sure that top is either gay, or bisexual with an at least 80% lean towards men. In bigbang people tend to say this more about GD because of his androginous style, but in my opinion top has shown way more signs of being attracted to men. Considering he said before he doesn't like physical contact with people he's not close to, he shows an affection and intimacy towards men not in a "I'm a man and I feel more comfortable with other men" way, but in a "I'm interested in you and I think you're handsome" way. And I think these signs aren't exactly unintentional. He might be a private person, but I'm sure he would be open about his sexuality if South Korea wasn't so conservative. There's a interview where the guy asks him what kind of person he's attracted to, and his reply is about both men and women, with men coming first. I don't know the full interview or context, but I find it odd that he not only talked about BOTH men and women in a question about attraction, but he also didn't specify anything, like "I like this type of men in a friendship/business partnership/etc" knowing people might have other interpretations. Also, unless he has a strong need to affirm his masculinity (which I don't see it), I can't picture straigh men having a flower vase in form of a... I think you know it, lol.

Anyway, sorry for the long text. I just wanted to share this with someone and you seem to have similar thoughts.

I've been saying this forever. I too believe he is primarly into men like 80% leans to men. women he dates when men aren't working out or just for the sake of it unless he meets one that really attracts him. He doesnt like women at all to me deep down. I dont think he would be open about his sexuality if korea was like america unless his bf or older bf was very open and pushed for him to be open too. I think somewhere in his psyche he is very in deep with the push and pull of fans vs him. I always say there is a reason taeyang and many other idols were openly dating while he acts like his whole life would end if he ever even claimed anyone. Yep. These idols at least back then used to sprinkle in a LOT of honesty about who they really are with questions like that. He told us blatantly from that interview you're speaking of what he likes and he knew the interviewer meant romance not general speaking with people. I Know someone will come in here with a counter confession saying that isnt true but he has proven too many times over he's legitmately into men and really only men, just women as a causality which whatever makes him happy is okay. TOP knew what the interviewer was asking and thats him letting his real orientation slip through. all his answers and behavior towards women is just too complicated. You'd think he had trauma from a woman with the way he used to answer.

I remember an anon long ago agreeing with me on the fact we both suspected all the men he'd post up with on IG, nearly all (ALLEGEDLY) were men he has been involved with or hooked up with. I didnt know he had a penis flower vase. he's definitely gay then and This is just on him in general.

small oikawa analysis

here's a small oikawa analysis that no one asked for but i wanted to put my thoughts into words:

we all know how oikawa is on the exterior - confident, cocky, determined, im-better-than-you attitude

but we also all know how insecure he can be, and that exterior is just a way to hide the fact that he feels his effort isnt good enough, that he lacks talent and the only reason hes come so far is because he put in insane amount of work, to the point of overworking himself too

however many people in the fandom tend to exaggerate? focus way too much? on that insecurity of his and make him out to be a crybaby

a weak, always needing someone to pick him up type of person?

and i read once that oikawa is nowhere near that type of person

yeah, he whines, yeah he gets insecure, yeah he does his best to hide those emotions and bury them down, whether it be because of his pride or because that's how he's always been but man

you think the oikawa tooru can't pick himself up? that he constantly whines and does nothing about bettering the situation he's in? the cunning oikawa? the one that knows his teammates' strengths AND weaknesses? the one who could, if he wanted to, literally ruin someones life if he decided to be a Mean Girltm? thats just bullshit

i think a reason why i love atsumu is because to a degree, he's so similar to oikawa, yet so different too

so first and foremost the most important part about curating your own style is to learn more about your body and what flatters/doesnt flatter it. it's learning some basic fashion 'rules' pertaining to proportions, cuts, etc. there are plenty of resources on this if you dont know where to start (kibbe body test, video, video) but keep in mind this step has nothing to do with your weight!!!! i could talk wayyy more about this but at the end of the day, some clothing is just more flattering for specific body shapes - that doesnt mean you cant wear something that isnt perfectly flattering, but knowing your body and knowing what flatters it will make you understand your own style and help guide the pieces you buy. fashion 'rules' arent necessarily meant to be followed, but just understood so that 'breaking' them is a conscious choice. (it also really helped with my insecurities???? like this step is basically recognizing that its not your body thats unflattering, its the clothing, if that makes sense???)

also remember that every 'style' works for every body type. i.e if you want to be a 60s vibe but youre too curvy for shift dresses, there are plenty of clothes in a similar style that would look great on you <3 basically, if you dont like the way a piece looks on you, you can still achieve the same vibe with a different article of clothing thats more flattering. but also umm.... you can just wear the unflattering thing if you want LOL if it makes you happy... then it becomes your own controlled decision <3 live love laugh follow your heart

okay. now that you have that out of the way. there are a million ways to develop a sense of style, and no particular order in which i recommend them. what i love doing is creating pinterest boards for the spring/summer or fall/winter seasons and just filling them with pieces i would wear in a perfect world. i dont mean like cottagecore aesthetic boards, just boards full of runway looks and clothing pngs that i like. i also love making little outfits for characters which can influence my own style. everyone thinks of their style differently; i think of my own outfits as little vignettes with narratives behind them, but other people are more concerned with just wearing things they think are pretty, other people view it as an expression of art or their identity, and other people just want to feel comfortable!!! its all up to you and what youre drawn to!!

one thing that tan france mentioned once was to go online window shopping by going onto the website for a brand you like (regardless of whether its affordable or realistic!) and just adding things to your cart that youre interested in. dont worry about how expensive they are or anything, and when youre done, remove all the items you like the least. and then keep reviewing and removing until you have just a handful of really nice items you really like, and keep doing this with other brands until you can identify common threads between the pieces you like. you dont have to buy them!! in fact maybe its better if you dont!!! and the websites dont have to be like zara or h&m ... go on balmain or chanel if you want, play pretend and have fun!!

re: the last bullet point, i think a big turn off for people in terms of fashion is the idea that you need to wear something palatable and 'appropriate.' its like looking at a runway and thinking "its nice, but i would never wear that in real life." but honestly????? in a perfect world i would be wearing full gowns to the supermarket!!!! if your ideal style is imaginative but unattainable, your style in practice will be a microcosm of it. basically... dream big... dont be afraid to 'overdress' if its what you like!! one of the best pieces of advice i ever got was from my aunt, who offered to by me a plastic tiara. i asked her when i was ever going to wear it irl, and she just looked at me and said "??? you can wear it whenever you want to!!" so true!!! wear a tutu to mcdonalds. wear a bedazzled tux to prom. who cares

accessories, nail polish, hair, jewelry, perfume and makeup goes a long way in developing style. i dont wear a ton of makeup, but just putting some color on my cheeks achieves a kind of sunkissed lovestruck vibe that i strive for. i paint my nails red because i think its chic or bright colors so they contrast with a toned down outfit. even wearing no accessories is an accessory in itself. accessorizing (or specifically not accessorizing) is like adding texture to an outfit imo

anything that advises you about 'absolutely necessary essentials everyone needs' is entirely wrong. there is no one size fits all; i.e everyone says you need one good pair of denim jeans, but i havent worn jeans in two years!!! an essential for ME is a pair of neutral wool shorts, but an essential for another person could be a thick knit sweater or for another person, a flannel. the idea that everyone needs a 'little black dress' or a 'basic white t shirt' is preposterous. YOUR essentials depend entirely on YOUR style. a pair of denim jeans is useless if you hate wearing jeans!!!!

as for my personal style, im mostly influenced by movies, books, songs, characters, feelings, colors, high fashion, and costumes. ultimately, you should worry less about what you want to be and worry more about what you already like. every piece i have kind of plays into some narrative ive constructed, or otherwise theyre all special to me :) if you want to update your wardrobe, dont feel the need to over consume fast fashion (or any fashion for that matter) to do so. if you take it slow and buy pieces you really love, every item will have a story and you'll begin to develop a more stable internal style and they'll last longer :)

Thoughts on MH Stories 2 demo

tl;dr - I found the combat system to be alot better than Stories 1, I have a few qualms about the story but I wasn’t expecting a stellar story from this series (although it is better than the story in stories 1)

Putting full thoughts in spoiler dropdown (sorry its pretty long)

- The battle system is SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER than in Stories 1. It feels more polished and balanced, fights are faster and more epic. 

- They nerfed but also simplified Hunting Horn D: 

- No wyverian gibberish!?!? D:

- I like how they are making it super clear that this is a different universe of Monster Hunter from the main series. The trailers have over and over again said that these two are different universes. (so please dont try to connect the lore...) I do wonder if this is why theres no MH gibberish this time around?? On a side note, I found the voice acting in English to be very solid. 

- Gotta wonder why Navirou isnt with your protag from Stories 1 this time around, they’ll probably explain it later

- Wyverians like cheek squishing - thats cute

- Ena has no sense of personal space

- BABY MONSTIES I WANT EM ALL

- I wonder if The Numbers will return to this game, they needed more story imo

- I wonder if special rathalos in this series are gonna just be called Ratha :/ It almost feels like they are just using the word Ratha like its a different species of Rathalos altogether (like a variant) hence why we have our Ratha in stories 1 (a Ratha with a black blight scar) Razewing Ratha (with the wings of ruin), and Guardian Ratha - maybe its because all of these Rathas are monsties? Also why even give them the differentiation lol (maybe its for the merch). Based on how the term “Ratha” is used in the game, it feels like they are referring to it both as its own species and as a nickname, so who knows?

- When the rathalos flew away in the beginning of the game did monsties fly away too? Did our Ratha from stories 1 fly away with them?

- The wyverians get a special kinship stone :o I don’t think Red’s kinship stone is the same as in stories 1 and its super clear that Red is not the protag from Stories 1 

- Wyverians are digitgrade confirmed - though this is a different world/universe after all :V

- My only major issue with the demo = I think the beginning section of the game could have been better. Instead of starting with the hunters looking for Ena and Guardian Ratha, I think it should have set up the village and you getting your first monstie and seeing the village prepare to meet the hunters AND THEN have the party where the riders meet the monsters (we then get introduced to Kyle and Tsukino here) the riders get into about G. Ratha’s location and then they break into the den which causes the thing to happen. The location of G Ratha’s den is so close to the village which makes me wonder where the hell was Kyle and his dad the whole time during the demo?? Also placing the cutscene to me weakens the urgency. It kinda feels like “oh the ocean turned red? who cares! go get your first monstie first!” They do eventually tie everything back together but to me it feels like ok you amped me up -to- ok time to grind for stuff and get eggs. The story is shaping out to be very interesting and solid but the pacing in the beginning just feels wonky to me (kinda like how stories 1 started and ended with the whole black blight plot but the middle was like ???)

the wild thing is like... everything everyone was saying from both sides makes sense. the good and the bad. i’ll start off with a pro and cons and then do a short track by track

pros:

i agree with what people are saying about how well this style suits her voice, it perfect. it’s smooth and calming but also doesnt stick her in a box and will allow her to kinda move with it and change things up as she sings, which i know she loves to do.

the production is exactly her too. it’s r&b beats with classic strings... liek that’s completely ariana grande. it’s so interesting and it weirdly works well? 

i feel like you can tell she was just in her element making these songs. i feel like she tapped into something that can be so endless for her and new ideas will be constant.

idk if it’s just me adjusting to hearing her sing but her pronunciation is getting a lot better

every song has at least one good and attractive part to it... there are no songs that i am so completely confused as to why it’s on the album.

it’s for sure my favorite era for her in terms of style

also her best album cover (but sweeter is close second) 

cons:

okay... there is a pattern with this album. every song had a really solid start. so many times i was in love with the verses and the melodies she was singing but... my god are the choruses weak. it’s just one line... repeated... like 4 times... then we move on... and i was sitting here like ‘oh that’s what we were building up to?’ and it happened with every song. so i completely agree about it kind of falling flat most of the time.

it’s so repetitive. besides the choruses mostly all being weak, the themes are all the same. like the 14 songs on the album are all about two things: her being horny or her being in love. that’s it. why did we need 14 songs to tell us two things.

another point: why were there 14 songs? so many filler tracks that just add nothing to the album for me. she could’ve honestly made a solid 10 track album and it would’ve been a good clean piece of work. 

the lyrics... oh my god the lyrics. the one thing i saw people saying, both fans of the album and not, was that the lyrics were really bad... liek they had to prepare people. and my god. there were some points that straight up sounded like 14 year old stan accounts arguing on twitter... ‘you sound dumb... shut up’ SHE USED THAT LYRIC AS A HOOK... she thought it was so good it deserved to be the hook like? and also there’s a lyric that just straight up says ‘read a fucking book’ lol. the good or tolerable lyrics are basically ones she already used before on other songs? like how many time's has this woman sung about fucking while watching movies... 

she needs to stop putting out albums so frequently. a lot of the complaints i see people having is just that it doesnt feel finished or polished enough to be an album. like she should have waiting a few months and refined things. it feels like a stepping stone rather than a destination. she doesnt have a clear vision, narrative or purpose driving the album at all. 

track by track

shut up: this was the first taste of bad lyrics like this is the song about being dumb and i fully was like omfg this is the whole song isnt it. i dig the production though.. this might have the best production of the whole album for me. 

34+35: i felt like i was listening to a horny 13 year old boy during the chorus lol. it just felt really immature at some points... like the giggling every time she alluded to 69 wasnt necessary. also the end where she says ‘mean i wanna 69 with ya’..... sweetie you didnt have to tell us we know we can add. i did like the melody of the pre-chorus. the ‘i’ve been drinkin coffee, i’ve been eatin healthy’ is really catchy and good

motive: god i had such high hopes for this. it first started and i loved the production and the prechorus worked really well... but again that chorus weakness really fucked it. and doja’s part doesnt really fit the song for me? it feels out of place and like she should’ve been put on a more upbeat song

just like magic: first song i actually liked and added to my library! i finally heard a good chorus that didnt feel like it completely slowed down the momentum of the song and helped move it along. and the lyrics are cute. i think for me she needs to improve on the difference between a cute lyric and a cringy lyric... like cute: ‘middle finger to my thumb and then I snap it’ and cringy: the rest of the album. also one thing there’s a lyric about her listening to music she wrote and like girl you had 34 writers on this album... what are you listening to two words? every time she brags about writing it’s kinda embarrassing like.... at no point am i impressed

off the table: this production would have been so good.... if it actually did anything else or went anywhere. it stayed the same the entire time.... for 4 minutes. also stop letting men on women’s music because it seriously never works. her vocals are really pretty though.

six thirty: i really like her vocal delivery in this... like kinda dropping off at the end and just starting to talk? it’s interesting. also the chorus really had potential because it actually got bigger and more layered and interesting but again with the one lyric ‘are you down’ repeated like 3 times then the chorus is just over it’s like... oh okay

safety net: again amazing verse delivery and melody... IF SHE TOOK IT ANYWHERE it would have been great. and again with the male features... not necessary. the bridge is cool with them both singing but other than that it feel flat for me. 

my hair: that smooth electric guitar intro is everything. and this sound of this song is so good.... but.... am i the only person who kinda feels weird about ariana, a white girl, being like ‘you can run your hands through me hair... dont be scared’ like?? why would they be scared... your hair is straight lol. it just toys with the whole idea of ‘don’t touch a black women’s hair’ for me. idk it could totally be a me overanalyzing thing. but god is she sang about anything else this would be my favorite song. second song i added to my library.  

nasty: if i had to pick one song that was my exact expectations for this album before listening to it it would be this one. the electronic hip-hop beat with the harmonies and vocals, all paired together for a song about her being horny (again), like yeah this all fits. it feels lost in some places though. like some points i feel like i have no idea what part for the song we’re on or what’s happening and we’re just treading water. and another weak chorus with 1 lyric repeated over and over again. (also random side not that intro of her talking reminded me of when she gave that billboard interview and people were mad at her bc she starting talking with an accent even though shes white... like thats what i thought of i was like ma’am you are a rich white theater kid form florida you do not speak like that)

west side: the production in the beginning is so cool? where is sounds like a tape rewinding kinda? love that. but other than that like... no point to this song being included on the album... it’s 2 minutes and it falls flat pretty early on.

love language: this was the one i saw most people agreeing was the best one/most hyped. i expected to be a ballad but it’s one of the more upbeat ones and honestly thank god. a chorus that actually has structure and goes somewhere? wild. good and creative lyrics? WILD. anyway the production is great and reintroduces that kinda 70s vibe from motive but in a refreshing way. really good tie in. third song added to the library. 

positions: i honestly didn’t even listen to this when it came out so i really had no idea what to expect. again the strings and orchestral pairs so well together... one of my favorite instrumentals on the whole album. i 100% see why this was the lead single and i agree with it completely. the most catchy chorus and it moves the song forward WHAT A CONCEPT. also very good placement on the tracklist because it was really refreshing. at this point it kinda started to drag on a little but this picked it right up. it also kinda threw me completely off balance because i was so familiar with the pattern of good verse weak chorus good verse weak chorus, but this is the opposite? weak verses but amazing chorus. forth song added to library.  also i am genuinely curious why it’s the album title? it doesnt really fit the theme of the album but then again one of my complaints is that it doesnt really have a theme to begin with so... 

obvious: the imagery i got when the music came in was like a dark 80′s lounge with dark wood furniture and i loved it lol. the same thing with positions, a surprising and refreshing combo of weak verse but good chorus which was nice. i can see it easily getting me stuck in my head, especially that hook. fifth song added to my library. 

pov: this is the other song off the album i heard everyone generally loved. i would say this has the best theme and story of the entire album. it has an interesting concept that isnt overly used and the whole song is pretty good decent verse and decent chorus. i love the end where she gets powerful and has more grit in her voice and we get more emotion out of her... wish she didnt wait until the last 30 seconds of the whole album to finally deliver with that but sure. sixth song to be added to the library. 

overall i was pretty surprised at how much i enjoyed it? i really expected not to the way everyone was talking about it. i think it is a good album with just some clear flaws, that could have been easily fixed if she didnt rush the album out so quickly. better lyrics and better judgement/deliberation of which songs deserve to be on the album and it would have been so solid. i would give it an overall rating of 6/10.

one thing i live by is that i will never show up to a function without baked goods, regardless of the type of function. college party? cookies and tequila. trying to impress someone? apple galette. a galette is a french term for round, flat, “freeform”, crusty cakes. in simpler terms, a pie/tart hybrid. personally, i love galettes more than pie because the crust should be the star of the show! show up to any function with an apple galette and people will think you’re so polished and cool (or at least i think lol). personally i think they look so rustic and cute and taste sooo good with some french vanilla ice cream. i promise you its actually so easy to make!!

ingredients:

special equipment | a food processor 

for the crust: this is actually just a basic pie crust recipe 

2 & 1/4 cup of all purpose flour + extra flour for your work surface

2 tsp of salt

1 cup (2 sticks) of butter, cut into small cubes 

1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar 

3 tbsp of ice cold water

for the filling: 

4 medium sized honeycrisp apples 

juice of one lemon 

1/4 cup of white sugar

2 tbsp of cinnamon

1/4 tsp of nutmeg

2-3 tbsp of flour 

for the glaze (optional):

3 tbsp of salted butter

1 tbsp of light brown sugar

additional stuff you need:

1 egg, whisked for an egg wash 

cane or turbinado sugar to sprinkle 

recipe:

for the crust:

in a food processor, add your butter, flour + salt together

pulse on low, slowly adding your apple cider vinegar and water

this should take around 2 minutes until a cohesive dough is formed

on a floured surface, turn out your dough and roll it in your flour

roughly roll out your dough into a rectangle (size doesnt matter), and cut in half

stack the halves on top of each other, roll out the dough and repeat previous step

wrap your dough and store in the fridge 

for the filling:

peel and slice your apples into thin slices (around 1/2 cm thick)

add apples to a large mixing bowl

cut lemon in half + squeeze lemon juice into the mixing bowl

mix with a rubber spatula

add 1 tbsp of cinnamon at a time, mixing the apples before adding another tbsp

add sugar, nutmeg  + flour

stir until each apple slice is well coated

for the glaze:

in a small sauce pan on medium heat, melt your butter and stir until butter ~ browns~ 

once butter is browned IMMEDIATELY remove from heat and pour into a bowl

add brown sugar and mix together

assembly:

preheat oven to 375 

on a floured surface, roll out your dough until its around 12-14 inches in diameter. it doesnt have to be a perfect circle !! the shape can be whatever you want. it can even be whatever size you want, just make sure it isnt too thick (anything less than 1/2 cm is in the clear)

to make baby galettes: cut your dough into sixths, and roll out into smaller circles - i go by thickness of dough not size of dough 

transfer the dough onto your baking sheet (that is lined with parchment paper!)

stack your apple slices in the center of the round, leaving 2-3 inches (1-1&1/2 inches for small ones) of exposed dough on the outer edge (this will be what we fold over)

once all your apples are beautifully arranged, fold the edges of the dough on top of the apples ?? i dont know how to explain this, you can figure this out from the pic

brush the glaze onto the apple filling

brush egg wash onto the crust 

sprinkle cane sugar onto the crust

bake at 375 for 30-40 minutes, until crust is golden brown 

cool for 20 minutes, top with ice cream and enjoy :)

Hey! I really love Bloodsport and it's exciting to see a figure skating au, so first off, thank you so much for all your hard work writing and drawing it!!! The drawings are gorgeous btw. I was wondering what your fancasts for the skaters were since you mentioned Mikhail Kolyada for Andrew. I think you might have put it somewhere before??? but I can't seem to find it so I'd thought I'd ask. I was just watching his short program from the 2017 Cup of China, which is so amazing.

Hey hey hey! thank you so much!!!!!!! that means a lot to me! Bloodsport is literally my baby. I was just sitting and writing Cracker Dust, then quickly hopped back to BS to fucking write chapter 8. I’m pathetically in love with this world lol!!!! 

So my fancasts!!!! okay. So, I had a long post detailing why I chose the skaters to pair with the characters. Unfortunately, that was deleted when my account was. However, heres a short summary!

Mikhail Kolyada IS my Andrew as a skater. And omfg. His short program from the 2017 Cup of China is literally the EXACT REASON WHY I MADE THAT DECISION. I am literally making that Andrew’s short lol! For many reasons, which will become more clear as the fic goes on. 

Nathan Chen is my Neil - for many reasons. As a skater, he’s both impressive and inconsistent. You can see his growth from just this year, to the last. When he jumps he may have a wonky landing, but he fucking holds on. And that is very much how I see Neil. Pushing the boundaries and climbing in the ranks. He’s still very much a young skater and it shows. but I literally cannot find anyone more perfect to fit Neil than Nathan. Also, his program Nemesis is my fucking everything and it is Neil’s short. 

Yuzuru Hanyu is Riko - fucking obviously. I mean, I dont think there should be much explanation for that. He’s polished, he’s experienced, his technique is stunning, but he still has his slip ups. I know many dont think him and Nathan can compare, but I honestly think those that believe so are sorely mistaken. Nathan may be inconsistant, his artistry may lack, but their styles are VERY different and I’m sorry, but Nathan’s spins rival that of Patrick Chan’s imo. Anyway, back to Yuzuru. He’s also quite cocky lol. So I think in many ways, he’s perfect for Riko (in the sense of skating and on ice presence). 

Javier Fernandez as Kevin. What a fun fucking skater. I’m not saying that kevin isnt fun - but like. He’s not. However, I cant find anyone to fit Kevin better than Javier. At first, i was going to point him towards Evan Lysacek

Patrick Chan as Jean Moreau. I think it fits perfectly tbfh. Gorgeous skater, fluid, amazing presence, subdued, it fits. 

The shibsibs for dan and matt. I mean, I know they're siblings and obviously, because of that, their dances are different. However, they have an energy that i LOVE. Also I mean, come on.  

Karen Chen is my Renee. Small, spunky, subdued, out of this fucking world. She also choreographs a lot of her programs. 

Allison and Seth I’ve always had a hard time thinking of. If anyone has any ideas, let me know! For now, I have them as Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov but that is subject to change. I also want to find someone that would match Allison as a single skater very well. because in bloodsport, she was a single lady before she teamed with seth after an injury. So, any ideas shoot em at me!

Nicky is Adam Rippon - the entire reason why I even started this fucking fic, deadass. Like?! Do I need to explain?!?!?!?!???!? NO. I DONT. 

That’s all I have so far! OH I ALSO HAVE JEREMY AS KEEGAN MESSING! because come. the fuck. ON OF COURSE I DO. I still have to think of Alvarez and Laila, but yeah! Hope this helps and if anyone has suggestions, send em my way!

Then I realized I wanted to finally THINK OF A NEW QUIRK at least in my head because someone totally did this before. And I wanted to make her have mermaid powers! Because I recently had watched a playthrough of The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker. So! Her powers were basically that she could sing or talk people into a trance. This is why she trained with Shinsou a lot and asked a lot of questions! She considered him a friend and Shinsou was a bit confused lol.

In the past she had problems with her quirk. When she was a child her quirk would activate without her knowing and people would become obsessed with her, specially creepy dudes who are already creeps. They followed her home and one time forced her to do a "photoshoot" by a grown ass man (Disgusting)

(yes, Mineta triggered her a lot because hes an asshole)

I also designed Shisokas family! She had 2 moms and one older sister. She was raised with a lot of love !

Her relationship with Katsuki was a strange friendship but kind of like brother and sister (and not romantic) When they first met she was really scared because he constantly yells... But when they kept bumping with eachother Bakugou admitted that he didnt want to hurt her or anything and she stopped seeing him as a threat.

The reason why they kept having to make school proyects together is a mystery (JK ITS ME) Also it turns out that Shisoka's sister, who is a "famous" model works with Bakugou's mom! What a surprise /s

Anyway... Shisoka is a good character... I really thought about her story and made a bunch of official art of her. Im not drawing her as much but she's a keeper! 8/10 she needs polishing but I like her.

Today was missed assessment day so they wouldn't even let me into the building ...

Me n Star went out walking, first to the dollar store, and I l1fted a black nail polish, a new knife, 5 sparklers, and two metallic sharpies, yes, for mild acts of vandalism, but also to fix my Jeans. I wrote "lucky you" on the inside of the zipper and it came off in the wash lol, so I'm redoing it for Jay to see and maybe laugh, cos it's funny.

We sat in the grass, lit some sparklers, drank diet soda and just Talked.

I told her about how I'd cheated... we broke up last night lol. And ever since we have, it's like the air between us has been cleared.

I told her and I was surprised to see that she wasnt hurt or really upset at all.

She listened intently and asked for the details like how your best friend would. I'm happy she isnt hurt.

This is cos she was kinda already over me and... she had also found someone else. They only did Online stuff so far, his name is Kevin lol. I went out biking with Elle and Erin, since it's summer we can do whatever. We went to a park, joked around from 6:30 to 9:00! Without realizing the time, then got slurpees and went to AJM park to sit in the sunset and talk in that calm peaceful way.
